Ellen LaRae Mathews died October 30, 2008. She was born January
31, 1926 in Minersville, Beaver County, Utah, to Benjamin Lynn and Esther
Black Mathews. She was the sixth child of their eleven children. She
graduated from Richfield High School and from Utah State University. She was
an Elementary School Teacher. She is survived by three brothers and one
sister, and all that loved and cared for her. Although she had no children
of her own, she took many of us under her wing and raised us as her own. She
was a very special lady who touched many hearts.
Being away from you, and then thinking what Bishop Peterson said yesterday in the devotional at the Genealogy Seminar, I have come to the conclusion that in our thirty-one plus years of married life., or even when I was courting you, I never really expressed my love and appreciation or put in words exactly what you mean to me.
At a large coal-mining district in England, in the middle of the nineteenth century, the family of James Eyre was working very hard for a livelihood. The times were hard and the work paid little, but with faith and courage in their hearts, this family knew they would reach the top. Soon after the Mormon Church was organized, the missionaries began to go all over the world preaching the gospel. One of the first places they went was England. James Eyre heard about the restored church and became very interested.
