Gary Alton Mathews, 65, of Toledo, Ore., died May 29, 2009 in Toledo.

He was born March 15, 1944 to Thomas Alton and Vanese Barker Mathews in Ogden, Utah.

From 1963 to 1966, he served as a missionary to Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ellen LaRae Mathews died October 30, 2008. She was born January
31, 1926 in Minersville, Beaver County, Utah, to Benjamin Lynn and Esther
Black Mathews. She was the sixth child of their eleven children. She
graduated from Richfield High School and from Utah State University. She was
an Elementary School Teacher. She is survived by three brothers and one
sister, and all that loved and cared for her. Although she had no children
of her own, she took many of us under her wing and raised us as her own. She
was a very special lady who touched many hearts.

At a large coal-mining district in England, in the middle of the nineteenth century, the family of James Eyre was working very hard for a livelihood. The times were hard and the work paid little, but with faith and courage in their hearts, this family knew they would reach the top. Soon after the Mormon Church was organized, the missionaries began to go all over the world preaching the gospel. One of the first places they went was England. James Eyre heard about the restored church and became very interested.
