Peter Sparke (1739)

Extracted from the Registry of the Archdeaconry Court of Exeter in the year of our Lord 1796.

In the name of God, Amen. Be it remembered this is the last Will and Testament of me Peter Sparke of Cleyhydon in the County of Devon, Yeoman, made this eleventh Day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty eight.

First I give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth Sparke the sum of Forty Pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid her in three Months next after my decease by my Executors Hereinafter named.

Also I give unto my said Wife my best Bed performed and one thing of a sort of all my Indoor Goods (Except my Clock and Case) at her choice.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Son John Sparke All that my Cottage or Dwelling House, Brewing House, outhouses, Edifices and Building,Garden and premises now in the possessions of Elias Marks as undertenant lying and being in the Manor and parish of Cleyhidon aforesaid to him and his Heirs and assigns for ever.

Also I give unto my Son John Sparke the sum of Twenty Pounds to be paid in three Months after my decease by my Executor.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Son in law John Harding the sum of fifty pounds to be paid in three Months after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named.

Also I give and bequeath unto my son Nicholas Sparke the Sum of Thirty pounds In Trust for my Grand Daughter Margaret Sparke Daughter of my Son John Sparke and he the said Nicholas Sparke pay (hole) sum unto my said Grand Daughter Margaret Sparke with so much Interest as he shall be able to make therewith when she shall attain her age of Twenty one years the aforesaid sum of thirty pounds to be paid in three months next after my decease

By my Executor herein after named.

Also I give and bequeath unto my Son Nicholas Sparke the sum of one Hundred pounds to be paid in three months after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named.

And also I give unto my said Son Nicholas my best Suit of Cloths that is to say Coat and Waistcoat.

Also I give Devise and bequeath unto my Son Peter Sparke All the rest of my Goods, Chattles, Bonds, Bills, Dues, Debts and Demands whatsoever that shall appear to be mine at the Day of my Death, except here in before given, whome I do make and ordaine my whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament (hole) disannull all former Wills heretofore by me made Ratifying and confirming this is to be my last.

In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Day and Year above written.

Signed Sealed published and Declared by the said Peter Sparke the Testator to be his last Will. and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as Witnesses hereto in the presence of the Testator and of each other

This Will of Peter Sparke late of Cleyhidon deceased was proved before the Reverend Dr. William Musgrave, Clerk Surrogate to the Right Reverend Father in God Frederick by divine permission Bishop and Archdeacon of Exon. And by him Admon committed to Peter Sparke Son of the said Deceased and sole Executor in the said Will named first duly Swornth
